Both are on purpose, and both are why it costs what it costs.
Everything is local. No server, no account, no sync, no telemetry. The records live in a file on the association's computer, backups are written automatically to the same machine, and the register can be exported to plain spreadsheets at any time. If you ever stop using Sexton, the records are still yours.
You lay out your own map. Sections are grids of plots you position yourself, row by row, until the screen matches the grounds — including the rows that are not rectangles, because real cemeteries are not rectangles. No GIS, no aerial imagery, no mapping bill, and no setup fee.
The map is the spine of the product. A column of thirty rows should read at a glance, without reading words — champagne is purchased, umber is interred, terra-cotta needs the stonemason.

The whole cemetery at a glance. Search by family or interred name, click a plot, and read its record — deed holder, balance, who rests there, and the marker's condition.
A register of deeds: holder, plot, deed number, purchase date, price, and balance. Owing balances are marked, so collections never rely on memory.
Who is buried, where, and when — names, dates, and marker condition, most recent first. Kept separate from owners on purpose: who purchased and who is buried are different questions, answered by the same plot record.
Plot sales, dues, donations, perpetual care, and the yearly ledger, with income, expenses, and net in plain view. Year-end export for the board.
A repair log with the problem, the contractor, the cost, and the status — and a printed work order for each job. The stone's history stays with the plot.
Homecoming, the cemetery walk, spring and fall cleanups, and Decoration Day — attendance, money raised, and volunteer counts, kept year over year.
